Pinterest has launched Beauty Guides, an AI-powered feature designed to turn nail and hair inspiration into personalized, actionable guidance. The new tool aims to bridge the gap between seeing a look on the platform and knowing how to recreate it in real life, either at home or in a salon.

Beauty Guides uses Pinterest's visual understanding technology and large language models to analyze a look in a Pin. It identifies specific details such as nail shape and finish. The system then generates a customized guide to help users move from inspiration to execution.

What users get from the guide

Users can tap "Get the Guide" on a close-up nail Pin to receive and save a step-by-step guide. This addresses the common challenge of knowing what you want but lacking the words to describe it to a professional.

The resulting guide provides multiple layers of practical support. It offers specific questions to ask during a salon appointment and sets expectations for what the service will involve. For the DIY enthusiast, it delivers clear instructions for recreating the look at home.

Guidance includes suggestions for similar looks to explore and recommendations for relevant products. Users can save the guide for their next salon visit or for a future at-home manicure session.

Why Pinterest is uniquely positioned to deliver this

Pinterest's strength in beauty discovery underpins this new feature. More than 85% of Pinterest users say they discover new beauty trends and ideas on Pinterest before seeing them anywhere else. Users are also 79% more likely to say Pinterest’s beauty content feels extremely relevant to them compared with the competitive average.

The platform's content often reflects users' own skin tones and hair types, fostering confidence. Nearly nine in ten Pinterest users say they feel confident buying beauty products they discover on the platform.

Matt Madrigal, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Pinterest, explained the user mindset. "People come to Pinterest with a point of view, even if they don’t know the words to describe it," he said. The feature is part of Pinterest Intelligence, which combines first-party signals, visual understanding technology, and purpose-built AI models to power more personalized experiences.

Future expansion of the feature

Beauty Guides is currently available only to iOS users in the United States. Pinterest launched the feature on October 6.

The company has confirmed plans to expand the tool to additional regions and product categories over time. This expansion will bring the guided experience to more people and across more aspects of beauty and personal style.
